Ninety percent of travelers will go by car.

In Georgia, AAA predicts 1.3 million people will travel over the five days, from Thursday through Memorial Day.

That’s up 86,000 Georgians from last year and a new record.

Cheaper gasoline may also be a factor.

Last year prices at the pump hovered around $4 per gallon on Memorial Day.

This year AAA predicts no big jump at the pump.

Don’t expect to just see traffic on the roads.

With air travel expected to be up 11 percent over last year, it will make the world’s busiest airport even busier.

Expect the largest crowds at the airport on Thursday heading into the weekend.

By car, expect the busiest time on the road to be the afternoon rush hour of Friday, May 26 and the worst traffic in the I-85 corridor inside the perimeter, southbound leading from DeKalb County into Midtown - all the way into downtown Atlanta.

The lightest crowds at the airport are expected to be on Monday, Memorial Day.

But road traffic is expected to be busier than normal that day with the peak hitting between noon and 3 p.m. as everyone drives back into town.
