Police, Parents seek help finding man who killed son

ATLANTA — The parents of Carl Cosby Jr., who was found shot to death in his northwest Atlanta home, are asking for answers as police ask the public’s help in trying to find his killer.

Cosby's parents and investigators are sure someone can tell them about the man with a tattoo on his hand seen in home surveillance video.

The video shows a man at Cosby's doorstep Wednesday night right before neighbors say they heard gunshots.

"My problem is you came up to the house with bad intentions,” father Carl Cosby Sr. told Channel 2’s Nicole Carr. "You actually rang the doorbell several times, waiting on somebody to open the door. It could have been my mother, but it was my son."

Atlanta police are calling the man a person of interest while the 28-year-old's parents are sure he's behind their son's death.

“You shot my son and then you took off running,” the senior Cosby said.

The younger Cosby's body was discovered his grandmother's Vanderbilt Court basement Wednesday around 8:30 p.m. It was his 9-year-old daughter who first raised red flags.

“She kept calling him and she told her Mommy, she said, 'My daddy's not answering his phone. Why is he not answering?' They normally text or call several times a day,” said Jaynicia Cosby, Cosby Jr.’s mother.

Several family members, including the grandmother he'd lived with, panicked about not being able to reach him. Police would search the home and find his body in the basement.

“He was probably trying to run away, you know run out the downstairs door to get away," Jaynicia Cosby said.

Cosby's parents say their son, who worked in a warehouse, was a car enthusiast and devoted father of two, with plans of opening a paint shop.

The most trouble he'd seen was a traffic ticket, they say. Beyond police finding the man seen in the video, their focus is on their grandchildren.

“Just maintaining that memory and helping to even try to fill that void that they're missing with their father gone,” said Jaynicia Cosby Sr.

A car ride in memory of Carl Cosby Jr. will be held Sunday afternoon at West End Mall.
