ATLANTA — A man accused of attempting to rape a shopper near Lenox Square has been arrested.
Police announced Saturday that Dwayne Bailey, 34, has been charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault and rape. He was arrested Friday.
Channel 2′s Michael Seiden was at the mall, where police say that on Nov. 6, Bailey followed a woman from the mall on to the Lenox Square MARTA station, where he forced her down a stairwell at knifepoint and robbed her.
Police say the victim fought back, at one point cutting the victim with his own knife. She ran to Macy’s where she called 911 for help.
Police say a MARTA police officer recognized the suspect from a previously released BOLO. MARTA units detained him and called the Special Victims Unit, who took Bailey into custody.
Channel 2 Action News aired surveillance video of the suspect inside the mall on an escalator. Police now confirm that man is Bailey.
Police are asking anyone who thinks they may recognize Bailey or have information about the crime to call police.
