More than 800 guns have been stolen from cars in Atlanta this year

ATLANTA — Atlanta police say hundreds of guns have been taken from cars in the city in less than six months, and those are just the ones that were reported.

As of June 8, 827 guns were reported stolen from cars alone since the beginning of 2021.

The police department released a PSA Tuesday on keeping guns out of the hands of irresponsible people, which you can watch below.

In the video, Officer Steve Avery says owning guns for protection is not the problem, it’s those who use them to commit senseless, violent acts.

“Irresponsible people & criminals with guns put us all in danger,” Ofc. Avery says in the PSA.

Police are encouraging gun owners to lock their firearms up with a locking device or gun safe and remove them from cars when they are unattended.
