ATLANTA — Atlanta police along with several other agencies are trying to find a group of kids believed to be responsible for throwing rocks and passing cars and damaging them near a section of train tracks off of Camp Creek Parkway.

Channel 2 Action News has reported about the rock-throwing incidents over the past few weeks on Camp Creek Parkway near the Welcome All Road connector. That area is bordered by train tracks.

Friday night, Channel 2′s Matt Johnson spoke with a woman who had glass shattered over her after her car was targeted by the rock throwers two weeks ago. The woman said she could not believe what was happening to her. She asked to not be identified.

“The sound was so loud, I thought that I had crashed into something,” the woman said. “I was terrified, you know, and then immediately covered in shards of glass, and it was just a horrible experience.”

Last week, Johnson talked to Latrina Brumfield, who said her daughter was almost hit by a rock thrown into the the back seat of her car. He also spoke Friday night with Simone, who said she nearly ran into a car in front of her that had been hit by the flying rocks. She asked Johnson to use only her first name.

“Someone in front of me just like kind of slammed on their brakes,” Simone said.

Simone said she stopped and ran up the hill when she saw two kids throwing rocks again at traffic, damaging two more cars.

“I really wanted to just speak to the kids to let them know this could have been like so much worse,” Simone said.

The woman who had her glass shattered wondered how the teens could access the train tracks so easily.

“I’m wondering now, why is there no fence?” she said.

Johnson was able to contact CSX Railroad and let them know about their railroad tracks being used by the rock throwers. They thanked him for letting them know and released the following statement:

“CSX Police have been notified and will coordinate patrols with local law enforcement agencies to cite and/or arrest any violators found trespassing on CSX property.”

Atlanta City Council member Marci Collier Overstreet, who represents the affected part of town, said she is hoping not only Atlanta Police, but the other jurisdictions bordering the area will share information, team up and help prevent these scary incidents from happening again.

“My heart goes out to the people who have dealt with this damage,” Overstreet said. “No one should have to have this kind of fear while on the road. We will continue to work with police to stop this from happening.”

The woman whose glass was broken is worried that if police don’t stop it soon, something much worse could happen.

“If something is not done immediately, and this is allowed to continue? Someone could absolutely die,” she said.
