ATLANTA — The Atlanta City Council can move forward with legislation to implement the Atlanta child murders monument. It was adopted based on a recommendation from Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms’ Children’s Memorial Taskforce.
The mayor appointed the members of the task force using members in the community. They were given instruction to find appropriate acknowledgment of the lives cut short during the Atlanta child murders.
After a search around the country, the city is authorized to enter into an agreement with Gordon Huether + Partners, Inc. to complete the project.

“I have spent many hours thinking, meditating, researching and reading about how to tell this story that will inspire, support, heal, give comfort and embrace the community, and especially the families of the victims,” Huether said in his proposal.

The memorial will be made of metal and stone with an eternal flame, sculptural wall, and benches.
“The goal of this project is to create a space that expresses love, remembrance, and honor,” Huether said.
The memorial will be placed on the Atlanta City Hall grounds.
