Case dropped against camp director in 5-year-old’s drowning

ATLANTA — Prosecutors dropped a case against a metro Atlanta camp director who was facing charges after a 5-year-old boy drowned in a pond.

Benjamin Hosch drowned in a small pond after wandering away from a summer camp outing at Cochran Mill Park in 2017.

A year later, camp director Terri Clark was indicted on one count of involuntary manslaughter and one count of reckless conduct.

On Thursday a judge signed an order of “nolle prosequi,” meaning the prosecution will no longer pursue the case, after prosecutors said they “cannot prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.”

Camp owner Maribeth Wansley was also indicted on one count of operating an early childhood learning center without a license.

The state said the camp was not licensed to operate and ordered it to close shortly after Benjamin’s death.
