Atlanta police release new person of interest photos in 2 unsolved murder cases

ATLANTA — Atlanta detectives released new photos and surveillance videos hoping to generate new leads in two unsolved murder cases.

The two cases are not related but police say they plan on holding weekly news conference because they are determined to solve every homicide.

The first photo shows a person of interest in the murder of Elexia Banks. The 40-year-old woman was found shot to death at Deerwood Park in southwest Atlanta.

Detectives said she was there with her friends and was the unintended target when a gunman opened fire. Police did not release a description of the person of interest but they are hoping someone can identify him.

The second unsolved murder that police discussed this week happened in August.

Police said the suspect and another person shot and killed Markeece Jenkins, 28, in front of a convenience store on Joseph E. Boone Boulevard after a fight broke out between the men.

One suspect has been identified but police are asking for the public’s help to identify the second man.
