ATLANTA — A metro Atlanta children’s book artist is turning to his community for help after a bout with poison ivy left him with severe infections in both legs.

Michael P. White was the illustrator of kids' classic “The Library Dragon” by Carmen Deedy. He’s appeared at schools all over metro Atlanta and mentored hundreds of students.

Media and library specialist Linda Mann said White is in dire straits due to a combination of health problems and the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Michael has been battling severe infections in both legs that were provoked by exposure to poison ivy earlier this year,” Mann said. He has survived sepsis, spent months under the treatment of a wound care doctor, only to relapse and be re-hospitalized."

White has been left with what Mann calls “daunting” medical bills.

Friends have set up a GoFundMe account to help him with his medical expenses.
