89-year-old woman arrested for shoplifting

Virginia Bingham, 89, is charged with felony shoplifting.

OCONEE COUNTY, Ga. — A citizens arrest was made for an 89-year-old woman accused of shoplifting a variety of pharmacy items from an Oconee County Walmart.

A loss prevention officer at the retail store says she saw Virginia Bingham try to walk out without paying for $117 in items.

According to the police report, Bingham was found to be carrying a variety of cold medicines and arthritis medications including Nyquil and Dayquil.

Walmart security told an Oconee County deputy they had stopped Bingham for shoplifting twice before but decided not to press charges because of her age.

The deputy handcuffed Bingham and took her to the Oconee County Jail where she is charged with felony theft by shoplifting because she has more than three prior shoplifting convictions on her record.
