Three people were arrested on suspicion of child abuse after authorities said they found cages for children inside a home.
According to our ABC affiliate in Columbus WTVM, Lee County sheriff’s investigators and personnel from the County Department of Human Resources performed a welfare check at a home in the 5000 block of Lee Road 246 in Smiths Station. Alabama, on Monday. This was after receiving information about a possible child abuse situation.
They found four children, ages 3, 4, 10 and 11 years old.
Investigators said they saw two wood constructed cages with hasps and locks. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office told WTVM that there was evidence the children had been locked in the cages on multiple occasions.
Investigators arrested Pamela Bond, 66, of Smith Station, Kylla Mann, 30, of Smiths Station, and James Bond, 69, of Smiths Station. All are charged with two counts of aggravated child abuse of child less than six years of age and two counts of reckless endangerment.
An 8-month-old child also lived in the home, but was not there during the welfare check.
The children have been removed from the home and are in the care of Lee County DHR, according to WTVM.
