BIBB COUNTY, Ga. — A man is facing felony murder charges after a shooting left a 1-year-old boy dead in Middle Georgia.
The shooting happened Sunday night at an apartment complex on Chambers Cove Drive in Macon.
According to police, 28-year-old John Demetrious Simmons was in his girlfriend’s apartment washing clothes when the shooting happened.
Simmons’ girlfriend told police that she left the room and then heard a single gunshot. She returned to the room and found her 1-year-old son with a gunshot wound to his upper body. She then took him to the hospital.

The boy, Monterrious Brown, was rushed into surgery but later died.
After interviewing with police, Simmons was arrested and booked on charges of murder, possession of a firearm by convicted felon and aggravated assault.
Simmons is being held without bond.
