ATLANTA — Giant pandas are coming back to Zoo Atlanta and it won’t be long until they arrive at their new home.
Chinese President Xi Jinping said Thursday while meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House that two giant pandas will arrive at Zoo Atlanta “in a few days.”
Zoo Atlanta and the Chinese government announced back in April that the zoo would be the new home for Ping Ping, a male, and Fu Shuang, a female. Both were born at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in China.

The zoo’s previous family of pandas went back to China in Oct. 2024. The zoo’s original agreement with China lasted from 1999 to 2024 and saw original pair Lun Lun and Yang Yang have seven offspring.
Xi said the program is an an example of “friendship between the Chinese and Americans.”
Zoo Atlanta says it will not be sharing the pandas’ exact arrival date.
