Burglary suspects in custody after Carroll County chase

CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. — Investigators said two people are in custody after a deputy chase in Carroll County.

The chase started after an attempted burglary in a subdivision on South Van Wert Road. A deputy saw a suspicious SUV parked at a house. As she pulled up to the SUV, the driver of the vehicle took off, sparking a 12-mile chase that ended at Woodland Court, Carroll County investigators said.

Channel 2's Carol Sbarge obtained video from a neighborhood driver who witnessed the violent pursuit.

The passenger inside the SUV started shooting at the deputy in pursuit. Deputies fired back twice.

Sbarge talked to investigators about the number of shots fired.

"Right now the investigation is ongoing, but it was probably between 16 and 20 (shots fired)," said Carroll County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Brad Robinson.

The chase ended near a dead end on Woodland Court. The two suspects taken into custody are linked to other burglaries, authorities said. Both suspects are from Paulding County.
