1 dead, 1 injured in townhouse shooting

ATLANTA, Ga. — A shooting at a southwest Atlanta townhouse has left one man dead and another injured.

A woman, who asked not to be identified, told Channel 2’s Ashley Swann said she was inside her Cascade Commons townhouse with her two young kids when she heard gunshots.

"All I heard was gunshots. It was multiple gunshots," she said.

The shooting happened about 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

“All I could do was just put my kids up in the bathroom, drop down to the floor and try to get safe somewhere," she said.

As quickly as the shots rang out, she says, they stopped. She came outside to make sure her brother was OK when she came across the unthinkable.

“The boy, he was laid out right in front of the door next to my mom's car," the woman told Swann.

Atlanta police said the victim did not survive. They responded to find another young man with a gunshot wound to the head just down Fairburn Road. Investigators believe he was attempting to run away, but was instead transported to Grady Memorial Hospital.

With her community turned into a crime scene well into Saturday night, the woman says she feels for the family of the boy killed and simply wants to feel safe in her home again.

"I really hope that they find the rest of the shooters because if they don't, I'm not going to feel safe over here anymore. I'm not going to feel safe for my children to be here anymore," the woman said.

The survivor is recovering at Grady Memorial Hospital.

The shooting remains under investigation.
