19-year-old charged in dad's murder smiles in court

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Police say a 19-year-old has been charged with murder after the deadly stabbing of his 46-year-old father in unincorporated Gwinnett County.

On Thursday, the teen smiled at Channel 2 Action News cameras as he made his first appearance in court.

Police believe a fight between David Trent Walker and his father, also named David Walker, spilled outside their home in the 1600 block of Country Woods Lane off Braselton Highway near Hoschton.

Around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, witnesses reported seeing the younger Walker standing over his father as he bled in the street.

Police believe the teen stabbed him several times.

A neighbor told Channel 2's Tony Thomas he never saw a knife, but when he asked the teen what happened just seconds after the fight, the teen replied, 'I don't know."

Channel 2's Carl Willis followed up on the investigation Wednesday night.  Witnesses told Willis that two nurses who live in the neighborhood tried to save the victim's life.

"It's just hard to comprehend (the death). What could go so wrong to where it escalated to that type of incident?" said neighbor Roy Brown.

The victim was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, where he later died of his injuries.

Neighbors say the suspect has a younger brother and a mother who live in the house where the fight started.

"I'm sure the mother is just as shocked as everybody is and hurt and destroyed by the situation," Brown said.

The teen is being held at Gwinnett County Jail until his next hearing set for Nov. 14.
