Home vandalized while owner in Afghanistan

HENRY COUNTY, Ga.,None — Vandals covered a Stockbridge home in red paint while the owner was working in Afghanistan.

Charlie Mae Thomas said her son Nicholas’ home on Woodland Trace has been vandalized several times, and she’s sick of it.

“It’s real disturbing because my son works hard to have something and every time I come over here, something’s done to his house,” Thomas told Channel 2’s Eric Philips.

Her son is working as a contractor in Afghanistan. Thomas was called at work Wednesday and told that her son’s Stockbridge home had been vandalized again.

“That’s horrible. You know, that hurts. When they called me today, I nearly cried,” Thomas said.

It was the fourth time in recent weeks that vandals have hit his home in his absence.

“In the past, we had the water turned on, which cost a $781 water bill,” Thomas said.

She said someone has also cut up his patio furniture, written racial slurs on this house, and busted out a car window. Now they’ve left what looks like gang graffiti everywhere in bold red. Police are investigating.

“Every time I call Afghanistan, it’s like it really hurts,” Thomas said. “I want to come stay in the house but will I be in danger? I don’t know.”

She said she plans to have cameras installed at the home to hopefully catch the vandals. Her son said he will deal with the graffiti cleanup after he returns home Saturday.
