Grandmother Of Twins Accused Of Murder: 'It's Unimaginable'

CONYERS, Ga.,None — The family of a local woman, police say was killed by her own twin daughters, spoke to Channel 2 Action News reporter Linda Stouffer.

Police say Nikki Whitehead's 16-year-old twin daughters killed her in their home in January. Channel 2 Action News obtained court records that show the trouble began years ago.

The 16-year-olds deny any involvement in their mom's death. But friends and family told Stouffer they believe the twins killed their mother, then when to high school for the rest of the day. The family says they are struggling with why.

"I've lost my oldest child and I lost my first set of grandkids," said the victim's mother Lynda Whitehead.

Lynda Whitehead said just a few years ago, twins Jasmiyah and Tasmiyah were in ballet and getting academic honors.

"I always saw them at Harvard or Yale but never would I have ever imagined they would be sitting in a jail cell," said Whitehead.

Their grandmother said serious trouble started when they girls were 14 years old. Whitehead showed Stouffer juvenile court documents about an incident where the girls attacked and injured their mother in a fight about cell phone privileges.

The girls were also temporarily placed with their elderly great-grandmother. There were family custody disagreements. In January, a Rockdale County juvenile court decided to send the girls back to their mother's house.

"She said that, she said that if anything happened to her, she said the kids did it," said Whitehead.

Nikki Whitehead's friends said she was afraid but still hopeful her family would work out.

"They were placed back in the home and six days later my daughter is found dead," said Whitehead.

Police said Nikki Whitehead was brutally beaten and stabbed. Police found blood throughout the Conyers house.

"I hear people say that, ‘Oh once you find out who has done it, there's closure.' But for me, it just seems like it's opening," said Nikki Whitehead's friend Natasha Parks. "I'd have been more at ease if it would have been a stranger. But for it to be the twins, it's just sad."

"I can't even imagine why they would do something so horrible to their own mom," said Whitehead. "It's just unimaginable. I just don't have the answers."

The twins have a court date in June.
