WHITE COUNTY, Ga. — Investigators believe they have identified the man and woman whose remains were found on a Georgia mountain last week.

A hiker discovered the remains on Mount Yonah Sept. 9 and alerted authorities just before 11:30 a.m., according to the White County Sheriff’s Office. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources also responded to the scene.
Investigators determined the bodies had been on the mountain for several weeks.
Deputies said Tuesday that the two people were not residents of White County.

The sheriff’s office said evidence collected at the scene, along with other facts uncovered during the investigation, suggests the couple went up the mountain with the intention of never coming back down.
Autopsies were conducted Tuesday morning. Results are still pending, and investigators said they do not have additional information to release at this time.
Their identities will not be released until dental records can be compared and a positive identification is made.
The case remains active and ongoing.
