COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. — An employee at an east Georgia middle school found a live alligator on campus Tuesday morning.
The young, nearly three-foot alligator was found behind the dumpsters at Grovetown Middle School, according to a note sent to parents.

The animal’s mouth had been taped shut and was on a leash that was tied to the dumpsters.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources took the alligator and sent it off for a health check. Once cleared, they told Channel 2 Action News that it will be released.
The school day went on like normal and district officials say students and staff were not in any danger.
