CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. — A 20-year-old man is facing multiple charges after police say he fired shots in a neighborhood early Tuesday morning.

Chatham County officers were called just after 2 a.m. to the 200 block of Larchmont Drive after receiving multiple reports of shots being fired in the area.
When officers arrived, they found a man later identified as Edwin Aburto Torres,20, in the backyard of a home armed with an AR-15 rifle. Police said Torres pointed the weapon at officers before running from the scene.
Authorities said Torres eventually complied with commands to drop the rifle but continued to run away. He was later taken into custody on Quacco Road after a Chatham County police officer chased him down.
Police said Torres did not fire at officers, and no officers discharged their weapons during the incident.
The AR-15 was recovered and secured at the scene.
Authorities said several homes were damaged by gunfire before officers arrived, though no injuries were reported.

Torres was arrested and charged with 15 felonies, including four counts of aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer, seven counts of aggravated assault and four counts of second-degree criminal damage to property. Under Georgia law, pointing a gun at another person can result in an aggravated assault charge.
“I cannot speak highly enough of our brave police officers who ran without hesitation towards the gunman and disarmed him before an innocent person in their home was hurt or killed by this inexcusable and reckless behavior,” Chatham County Police Chief Jeff Hadley said.
“Every Chatham County Police Department officer knows that a routine shift can quickly turn into a life-or-death emergency, and they are rigorously trained for just this kind of situation. We are incredibly thankful that each of these officers who responded to this call ended their shift unharmed,” Hadley added.
After his arrest, Torres was booked into the Chatham County Detention Center.
