Atlanta police told Channel 2 Action News on Monday that no one suffered critical injuries in the crash. Atlanta Fire Rescue Department said only car was involved in the crash.
Investigators have not yet said what caused the wreck or how the sedan ended up in such an unusual position.
The dramatic scene unfolded overnight near an I-20 entrance ramp, drawing crowds of onlookers and generating thousands of views online after video of the incident spread across social media.
Kalena Boykin said she and Michael Cunningham Jr. first noticed traffic backing up.
“At first we just saw a lot of traffic, like what’s going on, construction? We look up, we see feet,” Boykin said.
Cunningham said people nearby were staring upward in disbelief.
“I could see a bunch of people were looking up and pointing,” he said.
Video captured by Boykin and Cunningham shows a sedan wedged into the overpass structure while a man’s legs hung down toward the roadway below. Boykin and Cunningham said the driver appeared alert and was communicating with people on the ground.

“We were under the car trying to make sure he was okay, so we were just yelling back to him, ‘Don’t move. Stay where you’re at,’” Boykin recalled. “He’s like, ‘OK, OK.’”
The pair said they were concerned the vehicle could shift or fall.
“We don’t want the car to tip over,” Cunningham said.
When asked what went through her mind after seeing the vehicle suspended above the roadway, Boykin’s response was simple. “How? Why?” she said.
Those same questions have been echoed by hundreds of people online as video of the crash continues to circulate.
Channel 2 Action News was at the scene Monday morning as crews worked to remove the heavily damaged vehicle from the overpass. The operation prompted lane closures on parts of I-20 while emergency responders secured the area.
Atlanta Fire Rescue said firefighters found the vehicle in what they described as a “precarious position” above the entrance ramp, supported by concrete beams. The driver was able to get out of the vehicle without assistance.
Officials said the crash involved only one vehicle.
Police have not released additional details about the cause of the crash, and investigators continue working to determine how the sedan ended up lodged in the overpass.
For Boykin, the incident serves as a reminder about the importance of safe driving.
