20-30 homes torn apart in Troup County neighborhood, fire department says

TROUP COUNTY, Ga. — The strong severe storms left heavy damage to a neighborhood as they moved through Troup County Thursday afternoon.

Channel 2′s Courtney Francisco went to the Lexington Park neighborhood in LaGrange where she found roofs ripped off of homes and debris scattered on laws.

She said it was clear that homes were destroyed by the storms.

“We have seen possibly 20-30 houses that have been destroyed by the tornado. No injuries have been reported. Our guys, along with the LaGrange Police Department, have gone door-to-door to check and make sure no one is hurt, or no one is trapped,” said Chief Deputy Willie Bradfield with the LaGrange Fire Department.

Bradfield said the Red Cross is on the way to the neighborhood to help families with temporary housing. He also said firefighters would be back out at the neighborhood Friday morning to assess the damage in the daylight.

Bradfield said their big job tonight is making sure anyone impacted by the storms needs anything for the night and any other assistance they can provide.

Neighbors told Francisco they are just trying to salvage what they can and get into shelter for the night.
