Explosives Scare Shuts Down Hwy. 78

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Police surrounded a game ranch near Snellville on Tuesday when workers discovered a possible explosive device.

Gwinnett County police closed Highway 78 between Lake Lucerne and Ross roads for more than an hour while they investigated the device.

News Chopper 2 showed a police robot roll into the Yellow River Game Ranch just after 3 p.m. Workers digging on the property discovered a device labeled "explosive,", according to police.

"We evacuated a 1,000-foot radius around the device, which included a Montessori school. That Montessori school has been evacuated. They've been transported to another location for their parents to pick up their children," said Gwinnett police spokesman Edwin Ritter.

Police told Channel 2's Manuel Bojorquez they determined the device was not dangerous. Highway 78 reopened to traffic just before 5 p.m.
