Explosion rocks LA after warehouse fire

LOS ANGELES — An explosive fire at a warehouse has prompted evacuations and knocked out power to more than 3,000 customers in southeast Los Angeles County.

Robert Diaz of LA County Fire says 100 firefighters responded around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday in Maywood, a few miles east of Interstate 710.

Explosions were heard at the scene and a huge plume of thick, black smoke was visible for miles. No injuries have been reported.

ABC 7 reports the fire involved chemicals, including magnesium.

Precautionary evacuations were ordered at a nearby apartment building.

Southern California Edison says about 3,100 customers were without power and service isn't expected to be restored until noon.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
