Ellis Names O'Brien As DeKalb Police Chief

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Channel 2 Action News has confirmed DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis will name acting police chief William O'Brien as the county's permanent police chief on Thursday.

O'Brien took over the interim position in February 2009 with the departure of former chief Terrell Bolton who was placed on administrative leave then terminated two weeks later by county officials.

O'Brien was formerly the commander of the internal affairs unit for the DeKalb Police Department. He is a 25-year-veteran of the force.
