Dramatic MARTA Track Rescue Caught On Tape

ATLANTA — MARTA patrons saved a woman from being struck by a train after falling off the platform at the Medical Center Station on Peachtree Dunwoody Road.

Channel 2 Action News obtained surveillance video of the July 12 incident. In the video, MARTA patrons can be seen scrambling to get the woman off the tracks as a south bound train quickly approached.

During an interview with investigators after being rescued, the victim said she had accidentally fallen down because she is visually impaired and did not see the edge of the platform. She was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital after complaining of minor pain in her left rib and ankle.

"The safety of our passengers is MARTA's top priority. We are extremely grateful for the quick and selfless reactions on the part of several brave passengers and for the professionalism of our train operator, who prevented this unfortunate incident from resulting in any serious injuries," a MARTA representative said.

Officials said the platform was not wet at the time of the incident. No one else was injured.
