Douglasville woman finds $745K gem in law of attraction

ATLANTA – A Douglasville woman says the law of attraction helped her to win a Georgia Lottery prize worth nearly three-quarters of a million dollars. Melodia Harris, 32, won the $745,710 jackpot prize from matching all five winning numbers from the Oct. 1 Fantasy 5 drawing.

“I’ve been saying forever that I’m going to win. I used the law of attraction and visualization,” Harris explained. “I’m a huge believer in faith, visualization and law of attraction.”

Georgia Lottery representatives presented the lucky winner with an oversized check Wednesday at Hunter Park in Douglasville.

RaceTrac #0417, 9294 Highway 5 in Douglasville, sold the winning Quik Pik ticket.

Harris discovered her windfall while checking the results from the drawing on the Georgia Lottery’s website from her mobile phone.

“I was at Target in the parking lot, and something told me to check,” she recalled. “I didn’t even make it inside. I was screaming and in tears – happy tears.”

Married for 12 years, Harris and her husband, Cedric, have three children, ages 11, 10 and 6.

Harris is a data specialist for the American Red Cross.

“I’m going to pay off some bills,” she shared. “I’m going to put some aside for my children’s college fund and help family out as much as I can.”

Winning numbers from the Oct. 1 Fantasy 5 drawing were: 4-14-18-26-29.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $15.5 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.7 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.3 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
