Darius Rucker plays Prince, Hank Williams Jr., Hootie at Chastain Park

ATLANTA,None — Country music superstar Darius Rucker played Chastain Park Amphitheater this weekend.

Rucker emerged onto the music scene as the lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish. Rucker helped formed that band 25 years ago at the University of South Carolina.

Hootie and the Blowfish produced hit songs like "Let Her Cry," "Hold My Hand" and "Only Want To Be With You." The band's "Cracked Rear View" album was the top-selling selling album of 1995 and is ranked as one of the top-15 selling albums of all-time in the United States, selling more than "Appetite for Destruction" by Guns 'N Roses, "...Baby One More Time" by Britney Spears and "Purple Rain" by Prince and the Revolution, among others.

Nearly 10 years ago, Rucker changed musical direction and became a country music artist. Several of his country songs hit No.1 on the charts, too, including "Don't Think I Don't Think About It," "Alright" and "Come Back Song."

Rucker performed several Hootie and the Blowfish songs at Saturday night's concert at Chastain Park Amphitheater in addition to covers of "God Love Her" by Toby Keith, "You Never Even Call Me By My Name" by David Allan Coe and "The Joker" by the Steve Miller Band. He even talked a little ACC and SEC football in between songs.

Rucker brought the crowd to its feet closing out the show with Hank Williams Jr.'s "Family Tradition" before being cheered back onto the stage for an encore which featured Prince's "Purple Rain" to end the night.

The TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola and Capitol Records Nashville announced that Rucker will participate in the event’s Community Day with a special musical appearance on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 6 p.m. near the driving range at East Lake Golf Club. All Wednesday ticket holders at the TOUR Championship will receive free admission to the concert. The TOUR Championship’s Community Day includes a series of engaging activities for the youth of Atlanta, expectant wives of military personnel and golf fans of all ages.

In addition to several hits from his latest album and a few past selections, Rucker will be performing “Together, Anything is Possible” with a chorus from East Lake’s Drew Charter School. It is a song that Rucker wrote and produced as part of a partnership with the PGA TOUR. All proceeds of the song downloads from iTunes are donated to PGA TOUR Charities, Inc., a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. In turn, 100 percent of the funds will be used to directly support various PGA TOUR charities, including The First Tee, a World Golf Foundation initiative dedicated to impacting the lives of young people through the game of golf.

Sunny Sweeney and Mallary Hope opened the show.
