Couple Says Craigslist Job Ad Scammed Them Out Of $1K

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. — When a Fayetteville contractor saw an ad on Craigslist.com paying big money for overseas jobs, he thought his prayers had been answered.

The man, who asked not to be named, told channel 2's Diana Davis that he and his wife paid more than $1,000 for a job he never got.

Months ago he saw an ad for a company called Global Personnel Associates that talked about jobs paying 30 to 50 percent more than those in the United States, up to almost $90,000 tax free.

"They convinced us they could have us overseas within 90 days as long as we provided them with a passport," he said.

The ad also asked for $1,050 dollars, which he and his wife paid, but he said they never got any offers or a job.

Just weeks ago a new ad appeared on Craigslist from Kap Staffing Solutions with nearly identical wording and job descriptions. This ad asks for $649 for a service fee.

When Davis went to Kap's Marietta office, the owner said the company finds real jobs but offers no guarantees.

But a job seeker leaving the office told Davis he was explicitly told that there was a guarantee.

Kap's owner told Davis, "People hear what they want to hear."
