Census Worker Arrested On Drug Charge

Brian Stewart

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Gwinnett County officers arrested and charged a census worker after finding prescription pills and marijuana in his possession during a traffic checkpoint.

Officers performed a traffic safety checkpoint on Leach Road and Tanglewood Road in an unincorporated area of Snellville Thursday morning. During the checkpoint, police said Brian Anthony Stewart, 27, of Snellville, stated he did not have his driver's license since he lost it at his family reunion. Officers asked Stewart if they could search his vehicle and he consented, police said.

While being patted down by police, officers said they discovered a bottle containing 151 pills – suspected to be Xanax – without the prescription label. Police arrested Stewart and impounded his vehicle.

During an inventory of his truck, police found suspected marijuana and a small scale in the console. Officers also discovered several census forms that contained personal information, police said. Officials were informed that Stewart was a census worker and the Census Bureau was contacted to pick up the forms.

While being transported to jail, police said Stewart admitted he also had marijuana hidden inside his pants.

Stewart was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, less than 1 ounce of marijuana, operating a vehicle without driver's license in possession, and expired tag.

He was being held at the Gwinnett County Jail.
