LILBURN, Ga.,None — Police have arrested a cable man who they say stole from his customers when he went to their homes to make repairs, including one customer who is a cancer patient.
Channel 2s Kerry Kavanaugh found six warrants for the now former cable man.
Police said Stephvone Chandler, of Atlanta, made thousands of dollars pawning Comcast equipment and some of his customers jewelry.
"I was lying in my bed. I was sick, recovering from cancer," victim Jennifer Andrews said.
Andrews has been going through multiple rounds of chemotherapy to fight her cancer.
She said she was resting after treatment last month, when the cable man came to repair her phone and internet connection.
Andrews told Kavanaugh she didn't know anything was missing until she got a call from police.
"They described the chain to me to the exact link and I said Yes, that's mine," Andrews said.
Police had recovered her gold chain through their investigation with Comcast.
Comcast reached out to police about an employee they believed was stealing thousands of dollars in equipment.
They're actually diagnostic tools he would use inside people's residence to determine things like signal strength for cable and things like that," Cpl. Jake Smith of the Gwinnett County Police Department said, describing the equipment that came up missing.
Gwinnett County police said Chandler was selling the stolen equipment and jewelry to several unknowing pawn shops including two Lilburn pawn marts.
"He was getting between $600 and $1,100 every time he pawned one," Smith said.
Police arrested Chandler and he is being held at the Gwinnett County Jail on 13 theft related charges.
Andrews said she knows she'll get her chain back, but she may never get over someone stealing from her when she was at her weakest.
"To be going around stealing from someone when you have a job and there's a lot of people out there without a job," Andrews said.
A Comcast spokesperson told Kavanaugh they are fully cooperating with the investigation.
CEO of Pawnmart, Tom Haas, sent a statement saying they take every precaution to prevent this from happening including daily contact with law enforcement.
