East Point Fire Chief William Ware told Channel 2's Darryn Moore his team found the body near a front-end loader that was fully engulfed in fire. The flames spread about 20 feet away from the vehicle, according to Ware.

The fire started in the recycling yard in an area with heavy machinery and crushed cars, according to Ware. Workers at the facility were evacuated by police during the fire.

Ware said investigators believe the fire may have been accidental, but they are still looking into an official cause.

The fire victim had not been identified by police.

Newell Recycling open in 1976 and the facilities include metal shredding, metal recovery, an iron yard and an aluminum can receiving center.

East Point officials said it was the first fire death in their city since Feb. 2008.
