Alleged shoplifter punches female employee, gets away

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Police are looking for an alleged shoplifter who they say they attacked a store employee who tried to stop him.

Police told Channel 2’s Ross Cavitt that employees have their eyes open for a short, balding shoplifter who had been spotted before, wheeling carts full of merchandise out the front door without paying.

During his most recent trip to Kmart, a female loss prevention officer on the phone with 911 intercepted him as he wheeled out a cart full of car batteries.

“They noticed him and followed him and met him at the front door of the Kmart,” said Cobb County police Officer Michael Bowman. “The loss prevention officer confronted him and that’s when the assault occurred.”

The alleged robber shoved the Kmart employee, punching the woman several times.

“It’s a pretty heinous act,” said Bowman.

Police have several pictures of the man before the assault, described as a 5 feet, 5 inches tall, balding with some graying hair, bad teeth, and a slight limp.

He has allegedly shoplifted at least twice before at the Mableton Kmart, and possibly elsewhere.

He was last seen driving a Lincoln sedan 4-door missing a right front hubcap. He has also been seen in a maroon SUV.

“We need the public’s help in identifying this individual,” said Bowman.

Anyone with information about the man is asked to call the Cobb County Police Department.
