ATLANTA — 500 Songs for Kids is an amazing time of year.
If you haven't been, it is 500 songs spread out over 10 nights played by 500 different artists. The 10 day music extravaganza is held at Smith's Olde Bar. This year's theme is era defining songs. All together, Josh Rifkind and this group brings about a thousand musicians together for this event.
The energy in Smith's Olde Bar was electric on Saturday and will continue till May 8th. It brings an eclectic group of people together to raise money for the Songs for Kids foundation.
There is not a bad spot in the house. You are shoulder to shoulder with the people around and the energy takes over. New friends are made, old friends are reconnected, new artists are discovered and old artists are celebrated but most importantly money is raised.
Everyone is smiling, singing and dancing along to each song. Each band or artist usually puts their own twist to the song making that particular song their own.
The Songs for Kids organization brings music into the hospitals and special needs camps. It is a non-profit foundation that enhances the lives of children through music.
Ten dollars gets you in the door and all proceeds benefit the foundation.
Try and make it out before May 8th and if not you can make a donation at www.songsforkidsfoundation.com.
