ATLANTA — Next time you take a taxi in Atlanta, make sure you bring a little extra cash with you.
Taxi cab rides now cost $2 extra due to a fuel surcharge, sparked by rising gas prices.
Atlanta Police Sgt. Curtis Davenport sent Channel 2 an e-mail explaining City Ordinance 162-118, which allows taxis to activate a $2 surcharge per trip when regular gasoline prices average between $2.90 and $4.39 for more than 14 consecutive days.
"The current price in Georgia according to AAA is $3.01 and this price was at $2.87 a month ago," Davenport wrote in the e-mail. "At its current rate, gas prices have surpassed the required amount for this ordinance to take effect."
