$100K in taxes paid after Channel 2 investigation into exotic cars

ATLANTA — Ferraris, Lamborghinis and a handful of other cars driving around Georgia … but they’re registered in Montana.

On Thursday, Channel 2 Investigative Reporter Mark Winne told you about wealthy Georgians with garages filled with exotic cars who are accused of cheating local taxpayers by registering them in Montana.

Now, less than 24 hours after our investigation, a state official said more than $100,000 in tax revenue is coming in from people registering cars in Georgia.

Josh Waites, with the Georgia Department of Revenue, told Winne that as of Wednesday, people had changed about 20 cars from Montana to Georgia.

Waites said because of a lag in reporting, he expects the number to be much higer.
