2 Injured In Atlanta School Bus Crash

ATLANTA,None — Two people were injured in a crash involving an Atlanta Public Schools bus Tuesday. Police are blaming an inattentive driver.

The accident happened at the intersection of Roswell Road and Chastain Drive just after 8 a.m.

The bus was picking up students to go to North Atlanta High School when it was rear-ended, APS spokesman Keith Bromery said. News Chopper 2 flew over the scene, where a white Mercedes behind the bus was damaged.

Willy Spizman said he got a frantic call from his daughter, Ali, the Mercedes driver.

“She said that, you know, she hit a bus,” Spizman told Channel 2’s Tom Jones.

His daughter and the bus driver were taken to Grady Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

“Just to be safe, we wanted her to go to the hospital to check things out. She's shaken and emotional about this,” Spizman said.

None of the 13 students on the bus were injured. Another school bus arrived to transport then to school.

Atlanta police said Ali Spizman likely only checked the left side of the road when she pulled out of an apartment complex.

“I think that's what it was. She was probably looking back towards that direction and didn't see the bus,” Atlanta police Officer B. Cunningham told Jones.

He said the crash will probably result in a citation. Spizman said he’s just glad things didn’t turn out worse.

“We're fortunate that no one was, there were no serious injuries,” he said.
