Nashville's best quotes and when to use them

Watch Nashville Wednesday nights at 10 p

It happens every episode, those nuggets of truth that stick with us throughout the week, or at least until another episode of Nashville airs. Words to live by. Here are some of my favorites, and when to put them to use in your life.

“Small town doesn’t mean small-minded.”

Luke Wheeler to his high-powered PR rep when she suggests that Luke drop Will Lexington from the label. Seems PR polls show that fans aren't quite ready for a gay country music star. But in the end, Luke's all talk and no action. I guess Will should have gone with the Highway 65 label. Will he now?    When to use: Whenever you want folks to think you're a progressive thinker.

"I may not be the one for Scarlett, but neither are you."

Gunnar Scott snaps back at Scarlett O'Connor's fiancé Dr. Caleb Rand when he suggests that her music is just a passing fancy. Oh Caleb, really? Could this be the beginning of the end for Caleb and Scarlett? For Caleb on Nashville? When to Use: When you meet your ex's new fiancé.

“I’m a fast car baby, you’re a wall.”

A line from Layla Grant's new song Makes No Sense at All. She's just been left hanging by her boyfriend, her manager and her label, and delivers a soulful performance of the song at the Blueird Café, where one Glenn Goodman, former manager for Juliette Barnes takes notice. When to Use: After your friends all ditch you for something better.

“What do you want? What do you want to do next?”

Rayna James, schmoozing the recently solo artist Markus Keene, trying to get him to come over and save her fledging record label Highway 65. When to use: When you need to make it look like the conversation is all about them.

“You break my heart.”

Rayna James says to Juliette Barnes who can't seem to keep her life together, and pushes away anyone who truly has her best interests at heart, preferring to cling to those who are just looking to ride the wave of her rising stardom. When to use: When a little mama guilt is needed.
