ATLANTA — When COVID-19 hit, Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia quickly transitioned to virtual programming.
“It’s important to keep consistencies in a girl’s lives and keep them connected," said Sandy Helling, with Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia. "It’s also a way to keep them mentally engaged, stimulated and involved in continually learning and experiencing new things.”
The nonprofit is using Facebook to share activities from STEM-based projects to financial literacy and even outdoor programs. The videos help scouts complete activities and earn their badges online.
“We’ve had people participating from all across the country, not just in Georgia,” Helling said.
With summer camps canceled, the group plans to send boxes with camp supplies to girls.
Leaders hope to raise $10,000 through GAGives on Giving Tuesday Now to fund the boxes. The Georgia Center for Nonprofits is hosting the online fundraiser on Tuesday to help nonprofits throughout the state.
Helling said they want people who donate to share a picture of them as a Girl Scout and talk about the role the organization played in their lives.
