Woman Claims Police Caused Her To Miscarry

JONESBORO, Ga. — A Clayton County woman claims police roughed her up so much during an arrest, it caused her to miscarry two months into her pregnancy.

WATCH: Richard Elliot's report

Clayton County Police officers raided Shellie Youhoing-Nanan's Jonesboro home on March 2 because they said she had more dogs than a county ordinance allows.

Boot marks and a broken door jamb were still visible on Youhoing-Nanan's door when Channel 2 Action News reporter Richard Elliot visited her house.

She claimed the arresting officers didn't seem to care she was pregnant.

"I replied 'I'm pregnant. Please I'm pregnant.' And he (the arresting officer) said, 'Well you should have thought about that before' while the force was still being applied to my back and I thought I would suffocated to death," said Youhoing-Nanan.

Police did confirm they raided Youhoing-Nanan's house because of allegations she had too many dogs in unsanitary conditions in her back yard and had intentionally avoided animal control officers for a year. Youhoing-Nanan's attorney disputes that and believes the arrest was far too violent for circumstances.

"I think it's clear that Clayton County law enforcement overreacted in a very extreme way," said Youhoing-Nanan's attorney Tom Jones.

A complaint was filed against both the police and sheriff's office by Youhoing-Nanan.

"These are people that are supposed to protect us. They did what they did to me and now my child will never have the chance at life. It's very, very upsetting," said Youhoing-Nanan.
