Actor William Hurt, the Oscar-winning star of “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” died Sunday at the age of 71, his family confirmed.
According to Rolling Stone, Hurt’s son Will confirmed his father’s death in the following statement:
“It is with great sadness that the Hurt family mourns the passing of William Hurt, beloved father and Oscar winning actor, on March 13, 2022, one week before his 72nd birthday. He died peacefully, among family, of natural causes. The family requests privacy at this time.”

The three-time nominee for Best Actor at the Academy Awards is most recognized for such films as “Broadcast News,” “Body Heat” and “The Big Chill.”
Hurt was cast as Gregg Allman in a movie about the Allman Brothers Band musician when a camera operator was killed in a train accident while shooting in Georgia.
Six members of the production were also injured in the accident. Hurt was on set at the time of the accident, but was not injured.
The director of that movie pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and criminal trespassing as part of a plea deal and production was shut down.
