Video shows moments before inmate's injury that led to his death

Kevin Guerier

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Channel 2 Action News got exclusive video showing insight into the death of Clayton County inmate.

Channel 2's Ryan Young obtained video inside the Clayton County courtroom where Kevin Guerrier was taken into custody during a hearing. Days later he died from injuries sustained while in police custody.

The video shows Guerrier running toward the judge's bench in the courtroom. He is then tackled by a deputy and another officer takes him away.

"Well Ryan, what you showed me is clearly inappropriate conduct for a courtroom. I think that's fairly obvious," said attorney Rob Bozeman who represents Guerier's family.

Further on in the video, the courtroom returns to normal and then you see a deputy responding to the secure area where they are holding Guerrier.

Friday, his family spoke from the courthouse about wanting answers.

"He's not the monster that they're making him out to be or anything like that. He was a lot better," said Edwin LaBossiere, the victim's brother.

"The allegation was he made some aggressive move or a lunge towards the judge. And an attorney in that courtroom says that, in fact, did not happen," attorney Mawuli Davis said.

While the family waits for answers in this investigation, the Clayton County Sheriff's Department and the GBI continue to work to find out what happened behind the closed doors.

Ryan was told by his source there are no cameras in the secure area so there is no way of knowing exactly what happened once Guerrier was taken out of the courtroom.
