OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. — A South Carolina man is accused of stealing a horse and hiding it in a bedroom, authorities said.
Garry Chase Coble Jr. , 31, was charged with larceny of livestock, WSPA reported.
According to the sheriff’s office, a woman saw Coble ride a horse down a road at about 2:33 p.m. EDT on Monday and told deputies she saw him take the animal into a home, the television station reported.
According to deputies, there was a warrant out for Coble’s arrest, WIS-TV reported.
Deputies contacted Coble’s father, who met them at the house, which was his, according to the television station. The man told deputies that Coble was not supposed to be at the residence.
When the door was opened to the home, deputies observed horse feces in the living room, WSPA reported. Coble, who met deputies at the front door, went back into the bedroom when deputies attempted to take him into custody, the television station reported.
Deputies said they encountered a full-size quarter horse standing in the middle of the bedroom, according to WIS.
Coble walked into a bathroom, where deputies took him into custody, the television station reported.
The horse’s owner said the animal was valued at $6,500 and had a red laceration on its front leg that was not there before, WIS reported.
In unrelated cases, Coble is facing burglary, petit larceny and malicious injury to animals or personal property.
He remains in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center.
