According to a news release from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, on Oct. 29, a house was burglarized in the 25000 block of Black Horse Lane in Laguna Hills, California. A safe that had three Olympic Games medals were inside was taken during the burglary. The medals were reportedly being stored in the house temporarily when the burglary happened.

According to The Associated Press, the gold medal was from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the silver medal was from the 2012 London Olympics and the bronze medal was from the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

Officials did not identify who the medals belonged to, according to the AP. However, it’s the second time this year that a medal that belonged to a member of the women’s volleyball team has been stolen from the Orange County area.

According to the AP, Jordyn Poulter had reported her 2020 gold medal stolen last May after her car was broken into in a parking lot in Anaheim. A suspect was arrested and it took some time for investigators to track down the medal. The AP said that barbershop owners in Anaheim found the medal outside their shop in a plastic bag and gave it to the police.

OCSD said that no arrests have been made but investigators are following all leads that they can to identify the suspect(s).

If you or anyone you know has information about the burglary or if you have seen one of the Olympic medals with someone who OCSD said “does not have a valid reason to possess it,” call OCSD’s Southwest Investigations Bureau at 949-425-1900. Anonymous tips can be submitted through the Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1-855-847-6227.
