A Texas family said their dog had been bringing bones home for about a week, but they figured they were the remains of an animal that had died near their property in Luling, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

That was until they found a skull lying in their front yard.

The family called 911 and police began looking for where the skull may have come from, the newspaper reported.

The dog’s owner said they had been collecting what their pup had been bringing back, storing the bones in a plastic bag, KVUE reported.

Officers found the rest of the remains in an abandoned building near the home, officials said.

Officials said the bones were found in “close proximity to a high profile missing person case,” and a cold case unit was called in.

They did not say what case the bones may be connected to.

The gender and race of the remains are unknown. The bones will be taken to the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification, My San Antonio reported.
