The provider announced plans to keep people connected with its internet services with no penalties for late payments through the end of June.

Customers who need an extension to pay their monthly bills for Xfinity Internet, Xfinity Mobile or Xfinity Voice should contact the company’s customer service lines to request an extension. Late fees on flagged accounts will be waived and the services will not be discontinued for inability to pay.

Comcast Xfinity is also eliminating data restraints for customers until June 30 and offering free access to WiFi hotspots across the country for customers and non-Xfinity Internet subscribers.

Further, Comcast’s Internet Essentials, which provides internet services to low-income households at a discounted rate, is offering 60 days of free service for new customers through June 30.

"These extended measures will continue to keep Americans safe and ensure that households are equipped for students to learn and stay informed at home as the nation copes with this unprecedented disruption to our daily lives,” said Dave Watson, Comcast Cable chief executive officer. “Our services have never been more important, and we’re doing everything we can to keep people connected to the internet.”

School closures across the country served as a significant motivator for the company’s action, as hundreds of thousands of students rely on internet services to complete school assignments remotely.
