LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — Police in Lawrenceville said an 18-month-old girl died after being struck by her mother's SUV as the woman backed out of the family's driveway.
Gwinnett County police spokesman Brian Kelly said the mother was unaware that her daughter had followed her out of the house on Mosscroft Court just before 7 p.m. Monday evening and had walked to the rear of the SUV as her mother started it.
The child, identified as Mikayla Rennie, died as a result of being struck by the rear tires of the vehicle, police said.
Kelly said the woman was not able to see the child and that charges are unlikely.
