Surviving Hotel Fall Victim Communicates With Loved Ones

Ciara Williams, 25, and LaShawna Threatt fell from the W Hotel's 10th floor at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday. They were part of a small group gathered for Threatt's 30th birthday celebration, Threatt's boyfriend, Ray Hamilton, said.

Williams and Threatt fell into a window, which then broke, and they both fell. Threatt died, but Williams survived the free fall to the pavement below. Williams has a collapsed lung and internal injuries.

Friends said Williams, who is being treated at Grady Hospital, has communicated through written messages.

"She took a marker and wrote to me," friend Kay Clark told Channel 2's Linda Stouffer.

Clark said Williams has even asked about her friend who died in the accident.

"She's alert. She knows what's going on," Clark said. "She keeps asking for LaShawna. I couldn't tell her."

An ongoing Atlanta police investigation hasn't found any signs of criminal activity. Hamilton said the women were hugging and leaning against the glass when they fell through. The W is doing an internal review of why the window broke.

Wednesday night from 7 to 10 p.m., at Arum Lounge, friends are honoring Threatt with a benefit remembrance to support funeral costs and Threatt's teenage daughter. They are calling it "The Glamarist Life."

"It's just a celebration. We don't want anybody to be sad because Lashawna was never sad. She was all love. She was happy and smiles," friend Passionate Chonvill said.

Clark said she will never understand what happened.

"It just wasn't God's will for Lashawna to live, but Ciara's a miracle."
