Police: Child shot in southeast Atlanta

ATLANTA — A child is recovering after being struck by a stray bullet in southeast Atlanta Saturday night.

The boy’s family says he was struck in the arm by a stray bullet at the Forest Cove apartment complex. His grandmother, Keesha Jordan, was with him at the time it happened.

The toddler's grandmother said she saw a man with a gun running and then gunfire erupted. The family says they think the man they saw was trying to get away from the shooter. Caught in the crossfire was a 1-year-old named Rodrickus Robinson, or “Junior” as the family calls him.

Jordan told Channel 2’s Liz Artz she and the boy were leaving a birthday party when gun fire erupted. She said they were caught in the middle, when she realized the baby had been hit. She said she rushed him inside.

“I laid him on the sofa,” she said, still gasping for air as she recalled the shooting.

Detectives say the toddler was rushed to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston and is stable.

“I just seen all the blood. I just seen the blood,” Jordan told Artz.

Police say they have no suspects in the case. The child's family made an emotional plea to Channel 2 Action News’ cameras.

“We can’t even live our lives. Our children can't come out side. Every other day out here shooting. These people, everybody is too scared. Ya’ll need to step up and say something."
